In commemoration of Prof. Xin Yixin’s precursive status in the trade of China’s ship building, the “Xin Yixin Technological Innovation Award” was set up by the Shanghai Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers to encourage the enterprises and individuals who make outstanding achievements in technological innovation, mobilize the researcher’s initiativeness and creativity, and promote the technological development and talent nurturing.
This award is dedicated to the outstanding NAOE researchers for the achievements in fundamental and applied research as well as technological innovation. After the expert assessment organized by the Award Funding Council, the Shanghai Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers honorably selected Academician Yousheng He as the first winner of the Life Achievement Award.
Academician Yousheng He, known as the expert on hydrodynamics and naval fluid mechanics, is acclaimed in China as the forerunner in the research field of high-speed hydrodynamics. Throughout his career, he has been committed to the research into ship-building theory, high-speed hydrodynamics, flight mechanics and underwater missile theory. He laid foundation for the hydrodynamic design of hydrofoil and excited waves. Early in the 1970s, he was also the first expert in China to launch the studies into the excited force of the propeller, which makes the damping performance of the Chinese-designed ships parallel with the foreign counterparts.
Academician He’s achievements in terms of cavity flow, cavity flow oscillation, fluid mechanism of object in-out-water process and numerical simulation have provided the massive support for the national defense. In response to the demands for water resource exploitation, environmental protection, port and waterway construction, he founded the Fluid Mechanics Research Base of Estuary and Offshore Environment, which brought about the great incentive to the economic development of Shanghai. Academician Yousheng He won more than ten awards at the national and provincial level for his contributions.
