During May 16-19, 2016, 18 experts from China, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Japan, Korea, the UK, the U.S. gathered at the NAOCE, SJTU to attend the meetings convened by the Specialist Committee on Energy Saving Methods and the Propulsion Committee of the 28th International Towing Tank Conference (abbreviated as ITTC).
As the most authoritative academic organization in the trade of naval architecture and ocean engineering, the Specialist Committees of the ITTC, which are made up of the most influential experts and researchers from around the world, are believed to have played a pivotal role in making a decision on the developmental guideline, technical procedure and the latest research report related to their respective research field. Prof. Decheng Wan and Prof. Chenjun Yang of the OCE are now appointed as the committee members of the ITTC.
Through close-door meetings, collaborative meetings and symposiums, the participants of the two specialist committee meetings exchanged their views on the current situation, developmental trend, technical criteria and application of new technologies in terms of energy saving method and ship propelling technology, which laid a preparatory foundation for the specialist committee meeting in Wuxi, China next year.
It is an honor for the SJTU to serve as the host of the ITTC specialist committee meetings this year. This is a concrete testament to SJTU’s enhancing reputation and right of speech in the trade of naval architecture and ocean engineering. It also reflects that the ITTC is highly positive about China’s and the SJTU’s important contributions to the trade of naval architecture and ocean engineering.
During the meeting, the committee members also visited the experimental facilities built and maintained by the NAOCE, including the NAOE Deep Basin, cavitation tunnel, circulation water channel, wind tunnel and towing basin. They were deeply impressed by the advanced experimental complex and research achievements of the NAOCE, SJTU.
