On September 10^th, the first Chinese meeting of MEXT ?Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology?overseas project proposal "Association Study of Chinese Diseases of the Circulatory System and the Living Environment ", chaired by Yoshino Hiroshi, Japan Extraordinary Professor from Tohoku University, a member of Japan Academic Committee, and former President of Architectural Institute of Japan, was held in the cooperation organization – School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (NAOCE, SJTU). More than twenty experts attended the kick-off meeting, including Professor LIU Yu at Nippon Engineering College, Professor ZHANG Qingyuan at Yokohama National University, Professor Kyohko Hasegawa at Akita Prefectural University, Associate Professor Gotou Bannobu at Tohoku University, Associate Professor Nao Ki at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Professor LI Zhenhai at Tongji University, Professor LIU Jing at Harbin Institute of Technology, Professor LINianping at Hunan University, Associate Professor XIE Jingchao at Beijing University of Technology, Associate Professor LV Yang at Dalian University of Technology, Associate Professor LI Qiong at South China University of Technology, Associate Professor CHEN Shuqin at Zhejiang University, Associate Professor GUAN Jun at Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Associate Professor CHEN Xiaokai at Kunming University of Science and Technology, Associate Professor MA Weiwu at Central South University etc.

Professor Lian Zhiwei, Captain of the Architecture Technology Team from the Department of Architecture, NAOCE, on behalf of SJTU, delivered a warm welcome speech, and Lecturer ZHANG Huibo from Architecture Dept., NAOCE, provided interpretation service for the meeting. Subsequently, Project Leader Yoshino Hiroshi, briefly reviewed the research history and the achievements that his team has made in the last twenty years, on the aspects of Chinese residential building environment, energy consumption, indoor air quality and the health of residents, etc., and confirmed the project research purpose and contents of the following three years period. Professor ZHANG Qingyuan, at Yokohama National University, according to China statistical yearbooks, literature research and study data, made a correlation analysis on the relations between China residents’ cardiovascular disease rate (mortality rate) and latitude, elevation, other weather conditions, urban and rural living, life quality, living habits, etc. Professor LIU Yu at Nippon Engineering College introduced the correlation study methods of Japan stroke patients and living environment.

Besides, Lecturer ZHANG Huibo introduced the standard implementation contents of the questionnaire and field surveys on the elderly health and living environment, which would be a great help for following comparative analysis of the urban and rural research results. Dr. XIONG Jing and Dr. MA Ting of the Architecture Technology Team introduced the related research accumulations and extraordinary study results made by SJTU.
