On Sep. 4th-5th, 2017, the fourth KAIST-SJTU-UTokyo Joint Symposium, organized by Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) was held in Korea. SJTU delegates, composed of teachers and students from the Department of Naval and Ocean Engineering and the Department of Engineering Mechanics, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), attended the symposium, including Prof. SUN Ren, Prof. HU Tianqun, Associated Prof. GU Jiechong, Associated Prof. WANG Lei, Associated Prof. WANG Benlong and Associated Prof. LI Xin, Engineer YANG Yingqiang, Post-doc. CHEN Ke, Post-doc. LI Bo and Post Graduate LI Haoyu.
Prof. GU Jiechong, on behalf of School of Naval Architecture and Ocean and Civil Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (OCE, SJTU), introduced the research and scientific developments, talents cultivation and experimental bases construction of OCE. Post-doc. CHEN Ke, Prof. GU Jiechong, Associate Prof. WANG Benlong, Prof. SUN Ren and Post-doc. LI Bo successively made the academic reports and conducted the intensified communication and discussions of the achievements and developments in the fields of Underwater Navigation Waves, N-S Equation Parallel Algorithm, Cavitation Flow Study, Equation of Deformation Cylinder Motion and AUV Nonlinear Course Control, etc.
All the participants also visited Unmanned System Research Group, USRG, KAIST and acquired the knowledge of the research group‘s experimental conditions and the projects of unmanned vehicle, unmanned ship and unmanned airplane which are introduced by Prof. Kim Jinwhan, USRG manager.
Besides, all the teachers and students, from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), University of South Korea KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) and University of Tokyo also conducted deep discussions on the research achievements and prospects in Ocean Engineering and other related fields and the development direction of KAIST-SJTU-UTokyo Joint Symposium in future.
The symposium, held in turn by KAIST, SJTU and UTokyo, further strengthened the academic exchanges and collaborations among China, Japan and South Korea, which has laid a solid foundation for jointly promoting research cooperation and development in the fields of Naval and Ocean Engineering and other related areas.
